It didn’t take long for Spring to hustle in bringing rain and the year’s first storm. The grass started growing and lots of plants started blooming.

The 2nd week of March

Saturday, the 14th – The Lake House sits on the downhill side of a slopped lot. After last week’s snow and several days of rain this week, I tried to re-route the run off to keep it from washing out the front yard by digging a drainage ditch.

The 4th week of March

Monday, the 23rd – It’s time to put this ole’ boy to work for the first time this year.  One day down probably about 100 more times to come this year. At least it’s exercise. Afterwards I hauled off a Possum I caught in a live trap.

Tuesday, the 24th – The next day after  mowing I woke up with my sinuses going crazy. After avoiding a cold or the flu all winter long I ended up with a week of dealing with coughing, running nose, having no energy and generally feeling yucky.

The aftermath of Spring 2015's first thunderstorm
The morning of March 26, 2015

Wednesday night, the 25th  / Thursday morning, the 26th – Around 11:30 p.m. the first thunderstorm of Spring 2015 came barreling through. I was heavily sedated on allergy medicine so I was incoherent during most of it but I do remember being woke up by thunder and lightning. A second storm came through around 4 a.m. When I got to work I found our roadside sign all crumbled up. Fortunately this was the only damage we sustained but there were a few in the area who got hit hard resulting in roof damage and downed trees.

At some point during the week I realized we have a flowering bush on the east side of the lake house. I asked Lola what it was and she said it was a Forsythia. I told her I was wondering because I was wanting to learn how to trim it and she said to give her the branches I trimmed off. I went to Google to educate myself on how to trim it and learned it’s pretty easy to take clipped branches and start new bushes. This got me to brainstorming about landscaping and trying to figure out what other kind of trees and bushes I could do this with.

I’m working on  a new post about of my landscaping adventures.

Sunday, the 29th – I burned brush for the first time this year. The main reason for doing this is obvious but there was a more important underlying reason. The  burn pit served as a funeral pyre for our cats we had to put down in February. This was my first time to ever cremate a pet and I was only able to do Khaleesi  due to the amount of time it took. I will have to do Bella during the next burning.
