2014 has been pretty uneventful in terms of blog entries. If I had been writing about my summer on a regular basis it would have probably looked a lot like the following paragraph.
Wake. Bath. Eat. Work. Eat again. Work some more. Eat again. Piddle around for a few hours. Sleep. Repeat.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally ok with that. It just doesn’t make for very interesting reading material so why write about it?
For some reason, it always feels like The Year changes after Labor Day. Even though the warmer temps will still linger for at least another month, unofficially, it kinda feels like the end of Summer. There is a monotony that’s get broken.
School starts back which means the start of a new college football season. For me, that brings some excitement for at least a few games. Longer if we are winning. Fair weather? You betcha!
The saturday before Labor Day was the Hog’s first game of 2014. It was against the Auburn Tigers who were coming off a last second lost in last year’s national championship game. I figured the Hogs would get smashed. Even though they were competitive in the first half, in the second half, they got smashed. The next two weeks the Hogs were able to bully around a couple of small colleges and won easily. Week 4 the Hogs were back to picking on kids their own size and were back to getting punched in the face. That week it was by Texas A&M. The week after that it was by Alabama.
I know some fans may be comforted by the fact the Hogs weren’t beat in blowouts and I imagine some actually believe we had our chances in both games. I don’t see it. The Hogs don’t have a QB that can win games. We’ve got an O line that can. We have RB’s and WR’s that can. We have a defense that can. But we don’t have a QB that can. He may be able to do a sufficient job in any other conference but every position has to be a winner in the SEC.

So there you have my review of the team thus far. I haven’t wrote the season off completely yet and as long as they keep it competitive I’ll still watch. I may vent some frustrations but at the end of the day it’s just a game so I don’t get too bent out of shape about it.
One thing I was getting bent out of shape about? My cell phone. About a year ago I lost my newest cell phone and had to revert back to an older model because of a 2 year contract and not wanting to fork over the $$$ for the full price of a new one. I know in the global list of world problems that there are approx. 5 to 6 billion others that ranks higher than having an old cell phone.
But at that very moment when your phone is ringing and you can’t answer it because the touchscreen is not responding, it feels like a BIG problem. Or when you enter a phone number to make a call but the send button doesn’t respond, it feels like a BIG problem. When the keyboard stops responding in the middle of typing a text message. When you randomly receive the exact same text message 5 or 6 times within the span of a couple of minutes. When an app crashes when you’re needing critical info. Care to fill in the blank? Feels like a ___ problem!
I had to wait a year but finally I was able to “Upgrade at a discount” in September. I had to pay a $30 upgrade fee, which I gladly did, but more importantly I was able to get a new phone without paying the full price. The phone I lost was an LG Spectrum 2 which I liked a lot. However, my GF got one too at the same time and hers crapped out earlier this year which was way before our 2 year commitment was up. That was the 2nd LG she had to go belly up, the other was not a Spectrum, but it was all the signs I needed to spook me away from another LG product.
We’ve never had a taste for the Apple Kool-Aid so that was out of the question. We’ve also never had a need for the latest and greatest so we were able to get 2013’s Samsung Galaxy S4 for a lot less than the current S5. I’ve told ya’ I was a miser. But So far, So good. I love it but it’s only been a month so we will see.
Getting back to that global list of world problems unfortunately we did have one develop that’s pretty high up there. We have found out that Kristina has stage 2 rectal cancer. There has been no public acknowledgement until now because we weren’t sure about all the details. There were days and weeks we didn’t know to what extent it was. But as of right now were pretty certain that everything is treatable. First there will be chemo and radiation for 5 weeks and a surgery in a couple of months but it all looks like there is clear skies at the end of the day.
