The weather this summer has been wonderful. I began writing this blog at 3:30 in the afternoon on a sunny August day. It’s the hottest part of the day and it’s only 85 degrees right now. Last night it dipped into the low 60’s. A few years ago it seems we were having consecutive 100 degree days lasting for several months. Last summer wasn’t too bad and was fairly mild compared to the summers before it but this summer has been perfect.

I wrote the above paragraph on August 13. I must have jinxed things because as of today, August 25, we are entering our 2nd straight week of temps in the upper 90’s with no relief predicted for the rest of the week.  This is the hottest it has been all year and for the most consecutive days.  The heat just zaps my energy and all I want to do is nap all afternoon every afternoon. I’ve become such an old man, I know.

Kris wanted to try her hand at gardening this year. She had me throw a couple of pallets down in the back yard and planted tomatoes, cucumbers (to make pickles), peppers and squash.

As of mid August, the cucumbers have done great. We have about 10 jars of pickles so far. The tomato plants grew good but just recently started producing. It’s been a good learning experience and I think we can do so much better next year.
