while it’s much too soon to call it the dog days it sure feels like i got a big ole puppy clawing on me and trying to lick my face. here’s whats been going on so far to make it feel that way…

a few months ago i was all excited about doing yard work. i had spread grass seeds and was going to have a luxurious lawn by now.

however, thanks to the heat and lack of rain, the grass hasn’t grown. any place it did pop up, the blades are pretty much burned up by now. we have had  approx. 15 mins of rain for three days in a row now but it’s barely been enough to pack the dust.

so in May i switched careers from landscaper to carpenter. the back porch is an elevated deck with roof panels covering about 2/3rds of it. we wanted the entire deck covered so i undertook the project of adding more roof panels.

i discovered many areas of rotting wood in the existing frame which didn’t surprise me due to all the leaking we had anytime any significant amount of rain fell. so i’ve basically rebuilt the entire porch roof. i had hoped to have it done by memorial day but i’m mainly the only one working on it and i’ve only been able to spend an afternoon here and there working on it.

i’m very close to having all the rafters and bracing replaced. i will then need to paint the frame and install about 34 ft of panels. it’s taken longer than i had hoped but it should be good for another 20 or 30 years when i’m done.

what’s been keeping me entertained?
survior. glee. american idol. game of thrones. the killing. but my shows have wrapped up thier seasons.

still plenty of good movies on thier way. saw both snow white movies. “mirror mirror” was good but “the huntsman” was really good. “dark shadows” was a curve ball. expected more humor but did enjoy it’s seriousness. i’m not a die hard fan of the “alien” franchise but have been intrigued about the ‘it is but it isn’t’ hype around “promethius”. hope it lives up. not worried about spidey or the winged freak. can’t wait. bring them on.
