Winter has tried to stick around as long as it could but I think Spring is trying to force it’s way in.
“It started out sounding like the legs on a wooden chair being scooted gently across a hardwood floor in another room. But the sound continued on much longer than the time you expect it would take to move a chair from one spot to another. Its low volume made me listen intently to figure out “what is that?” As the sound started to get louder the usual suspects came to mind. “Is it a train in the distance? Is it a plane flying over head?” It felt like the sound lasted for minutes but, in reality, I’m sure it was only 5 to 10 secs. Then came the abrupt end to the mystery. There is no mistaking that low, rumbling boom that sounds like a bomb was dropped on the town 20 miles away. It was now clear. That sound was the growl of spring’s first thunderstorm announcing that it was on the way.”
I wrote that on Thursday, April 24 as we had one of the first storms of the season approaching. It turned out to be a fairly mild storm especially compared the the ones that came through on Sunday the 27th spawning a tornado that hit the towns of Mayflower and Vilonia.

I don’t know why but I love watching thunderstorms. I think that they are proof that there is a higher power and that It is very powerful. I have been out on a lake several times when a bad storm has passed through and it’s a pretty incredible to experience. I have been blessed in my life to never have had a direct hit from a tornado and I worry about friends anytime it appears one passes over them. Unfortunately we are a very populated planet and when these storms rage there is loss and suffering in their wake. That part I don’t like.
A year or two ago I discovered a website called tvnweather.com that features live storm chasing. These guys drive around with cameras streaming video as they chase storms. I’ve heard people call YouTube a “rabbit hole” because you can start watching a video and end up spending hours watching as you get deeper and deeper into it. tvnweather.com is a major “rabbit hole” as I will virtually ride around for hours in these guys cars trying to get a glimpse of a storm. And the best part is that it’s from the safety of my computer.
