Happy Thanksgiving 2013

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year.

Family, Friends & Feasting

As always I had two huge meals on the day.

My mom made lunch and my mother-out-law (the nickname she gave herself) both prepared spreads that would’ve satisfied any gathering of Pilgrims and Indians.

I ate too much and would’ve been more than content to go to sleep that night and not wake up until early spring 2014. Even though I love this time of year. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. A good hibernation would help me avoid all the hustle and bustle that goes on during the holidays.

The Hustle and Bustle that begins with Black Friday. It’s not the food I gorge on that makes me sick at Thanksgiving, it’s the greed of the big box monster and all it’s offspring. I am so thankful I was not raised to be materialistic.

I know for some it’s actually a fun activity to participate in. For them hunting for bargains is no different than someone hunting for deer. It’s just what they like to do and I get that. And for those people, I have no issues.

It’s the masses that get whipped up in the frenzy that disgust me. It’s the herd of people that stampedes out of control because they are trying to out run the one next to them. It’s the mob mentality of pushing and hitting and kicking just to get the ‘stuff’ before someone else does.

Despite all my rage I am still just a cow in a cage.

It’s THOSE idiots that disgust me. But it’s also THOSE idiots that i’m able to buy all that ‘stuff’ for pennies on the dollar when they have yard sales or post it on craigslist so I guess i’m able to find some good in it.

Football Season 2013…or lack thereof.

Thanksgiving is also the time of year that college football wraps up it’s regular season. But for me, the season was over the very first week of SEC play for the Razorbacks. I DVR’d most of the games but didn’t end up watching hardly any of them. Why would I?

The Razorbacks playing in the SEC this year is like me having a loved one compete on a season of UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter. None of my loved ones are trained fighters so each week, they would not only get beat but, they would get their face pounded in. Week after Week. Why would I want to watch that? That is what the 2013 Razorback football season was like.

Having said that, the SEC is the only place I would want to compete. Every team that competes there has a shot at a national championship if they avoid a loss or two. There are other teams in other conferences that can go undefeated and still not be considered for a national championship. If you don’t have a shot at a championship, what’s the point?

Oddly enough, I haven’t even been interested in the NFL either this year. I have yet to watch an entire game.

I did watch two GREAT movies lately. Thor: The Dark World and Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Smart Stories. Beautiful to look at. Very entertaining.

Time to bundle up. Winter is coming and that is not a Game of Thrones reference.
