February. Month of the fish. Literally.

February brought the start of my 45th year of life. I celebrated the exact same way I spent my very first day on earth. I laid around and did nothing of any significance.

I guess a recap of the month would mainly consist of an update on my newly adopted female kitty, Lil’ Sis.

My tom, Charcoal, warmed up to her fairly quick. It was either that or she figured out early on that he is all hiss and no bite. There was a lot of miserable weather in February so they spent quite a bit of time cooped up for extended periods. I’m sure that helped the bonding process.

Lil’ Sis seems settled in now and I’ve let her venture out of the house a time or too. She seems so amazed with outdoor life. I have no clue about her background other than the worker at the animal shelter said she was a “return”. I asked why someone would return a pet and she said the previous owner claimed the landlord had some kind of illness that prevented the owner from having a pet or at least a cat. I guess that sounds legit but Lil’ Sis does seem a little hyper active so I could also easily see someone not having patience to deal with her as another reason.

Whatever the case she can now be hyper active outside all she wants. It’s so funny to she her take off running across the yard like a speeding bullet like she never had a chance to see how fast she could run for an extended distance and now she’s getting too. WWWEEEEEE!

Being born in February makes me a Pieces. How appropriate my sign is the fish.

I got the bright idea to stock my GF’s parents pond with fish. I’ve always thought it would be cool to have a pond so when I found out they had one I was excited. The kind of excitement when a kid gets a pony. I never wanted a horse just a hole full of water and fish.

But time had took it’s toll on the pond. By the summer of last year grass had pretty much covered the surface and when the drought kicked in it pretty well reduced it to an over-sized puddle by the winter time.

The Out-Laws, as they have named themselves, told me at one time it had a good fish population so I’ve taken it upon myself to bring the pond back to life. We’ve had pretty decent rains over the past few months and the pond has filled back up. My first thought was that I would catch some fish from the lake and bring them to the pond. And I still might do that some but as I began studying about pond management I learned I could stock grass carp to try to control the grass problem. There was no way i’d catch them in the lake so I found out I could buy some from a fish truck that came by the local farm co-op. Then I decided to buy some bluegill and catfish as well. I figure they will be fun to catch and maybe even provide some food when they get big enough.

So that was pretty much the highlights in February  Fortunately there wasn’t enough problems worth venting about here so that’s another positive.
