Has winter given us it’s graceful kiss goodbye?

The Morning of March 5, 2015

We had a nice snowfall on Wednesday afternoon, Mar. 4th. It was the first real snow day of the year in my opinion. We have experienced wintry weather, on and off, since about mid February but it’s mainly been spotty. Some areas of the River Valley would get more than others.

One night, Tuesday Feb. 17, I left the lake house around 9 PM heading towards my parents house roughly 10 miles away. It was spitting a little snow as I started out and didn’t think much about it because the forecast only had a 20% chance of participation. But less than 10 mins later I was caught in white out conditions on the crooked, steep road that leads to my parents house. I had to turn around less than a quarter mile away and head back to town because my vehicle couldn’t make it up the final hill to their house. But back in town it wasn’t coming down near as much and I was able to make it back to the lake house. By the following mid-morning it was as if it had not snowed at all and the mini blizzard I experienced the night before was a figment of my imagination.

Back when I lived in Nashville I had to spend the night in my car once and ever since I HATE traveling in wintry conditions. These days, my deciding factor on traveling in it is not whether I think I can make it to my destination but can I make it back home? If there is even the slightest chance on me getting stuck somewhere other than my home I don’t venture out.

As of the writing of this post the extended forecast is predicting temps in the mid 60’s by the middle of next week so hopefully the snow we had this past Wednesday is winter’s way of giving us a graceful kiss goodbye for the year.

And I am so ready to put this winter behind me. It has been bad. Having to travel in the wintry conditions has been a pebble in the shoe. Where these shoes have had to walk, that’s been the hard part.

In the past month my girlfriend has had surgery to remove a cancerous organ from her body. I had to put down two pet cats I watched fade away from a month long fungal lung infection. I’ve had skunks living and spraying under the lake house and I’m in the process of capturing and relocating them. As of this post, I’ve caught eight and saw tracks in the snow of more either entering or leaving the house under the air conditioner.

All of this on top of trying to work and have a somewhat normal existence has been exhausting.

So yeah, give us a graceful lil’ kiss goodbye Winter 2014/2015. It’s a nice gesture but it’s time for you to go.
